One of the newer additions is Ample Hills Creamery.  The ice cream shop chain, founded by a married couple in 2011, has 17 locations in the US (mostly in New York).  The Brooklyn natives derived the name from a Walt Whitman passage from Crossing Brooklyn Ferry, “I too lived—Brooklyn, of ample hills, was mine;”. The name perfectly evokes the spirit of the the Boardwalk theme.

We recently visited Ample Hills Creamery for the first time.  The decor is a fun and a bit whimsical. I especially love the Boardwalk Mural!

While waiting in line (there will most likely be a line!), there is a fun “ordering flowchart” on display.

There are a lot of ice cream options, and it can be difficult to choose. Luckily, they provide small samples, which we definitely took advantage of!

Even the names are fun! Options include Sally Sells Seashells (Fresh and Fluffy Orange Marshmallow Ice Cream with House-made Salty Chocolate Seashells) and Nonna D’s Oatmeal Lace (Dark Brown Sugar Cinnamon Ice Cream with House-made Oatmeal Lace Cookies).

Ice Cream is available in cups or cones, as well as specialty cones (such as chocolate covered waffle cones). In addition, guests can also order sundaes, milkshakes and floats. They even offer a Sampler “flight”, with up to 6 flavors, providing a perfect option to share with friends. Full menu and prices available here.

We tried LOTS of flavors before deciding, and my husband eventually chose the Ooey Gooey Butter Cake (Vanilla Ice Cream made with Cream Cheese and gobs of House-made St. Louis-Style Ooey Gooey Butter Cake). We had seen this mentioned a number of times online as the “go to” flavor.  He loved it, especially the cake bits! He loved the creaminess of the ice cream and the uniqueness of the flavor.

I chose the Cookies ‘n’ Cream (Sweet Cream Ice Cream with pieces of Back-To-Nature Sandwich Creme Cookies). Honestly, it was not my favorite. I liked the sample enough, but a full serving was a bit “too” sweet.  In addition, the general texture of the ice cream at Ample Hills would not be my preference. Even the Back-To-Nature cookies didn’t taste “right” to me, they did not have the same flavor as Oreos. I ate most of it, then gave the rest to my husband. It was just “meh” if I am being honest and I would not order again.  Others may love it, it was not bad, but not the flavor I was looking for.

I personally would not go back, while my husband would be the first back in line! Luckily, there are lots of yummy options at the Boardwalk. Whatever you decide to snack on, the Boardwalk provides a perfect place to stroll and enjoy a treat!
